Describe the tenets of the United States’ Terrorism Strategy (eight overarching counterterrorism goals). In 2011, then President Obama laid out eight overarching counterterrorism goals to create a framework for the U.S. global counterterrorism mission. First and foremost is to protect American people the homeland and American interests. This goal includes protecting and promoting American interests both at home and abroad. As with technology, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) are evolving and scientists are looking for new technology to develop new WMDs. The first area of trending technology is information technology. Currently domestically most Americans have access to high speed internet, many of them on their phones. This increase in availability of technology at someone’s finger tips may soon extend to all subjects around the world. This is particularly interesting when looking at WMDs, because of the increased reliance on technology. Additional creations in technology could create autonomous robots that can be weaponized. These robots could cause mass casualties without the risk of death to terrorist. The second area of trending technology in concern to WMDs is biotechnology. Biotechnology is currently being used to look for cures to diseases or increase productivity of plants. The concern is a genetically modified organism could be created to cause increased mortality rates or be resistant to current antibodies.
